Geography Progression Map

Intent – Geography at New Delaval Primary School should:

  • Enable children to gain knowledge and understanding of places in the world.
  • Increase children’s knowledge of other cultures and, in so doing, teach a respect and understanding of what it means to be a positive citizen in a multi-cultural country.
  • Develop children’s ‘skills of critical enquiry an ability to handle and interpret information, through asking and answering geographical questions.
  • Explore values and attitudes about complex issues such as sustainability and sustainable development.
  • Enable children to know and understand environmental problems at a local, regional, and global level.
  • Encourage in children a commitment to sustainable development and an appreciation of what ‘global citizenship’ means
  • Allow children to learn graphic skills, including how to use, draw and interpret maps.
  • Develop a variety of other skills, including those of enquiry, problem solving and ICT.
  • Investigation and how to present their conclusions in the most appropriate way.

Knowledge Organisers

At New Delaval, we create knowledge organisers to support our pupils during their units of work.

Our Knowledge organisers contain:
  • Key vocabulary - which we also weave through our english and reading sessions.
  • Key questions - these are used to help recap lessons and act as mini plenaries.
  • Images - to support the understanding of vocabulary.

We refer to our knowledge organisers at the start and end of every lesson to help consolidate learning.
