MFL Progression Map

Intent – Children learning about MFL at New Delaval Primary School should:

  • Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
  • Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
  • Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
  • Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
  • To develop the enthusiasm for language learning.
  • To increase the children’s global awareness.
  • To enable children, who have the opportunity, to travel abroad with enjoyment, confidence and interest.

At New Delaval, we use Languagenut to help deliver our French curriculum. Languagenut helps support teachers and facilitates productive, engaging lessons. Pupils in years 3 to 6 access this resource weekly and its online platform allows pupils to access this at home via their individual logins.
